Academic Affairs Division Student Record Changes (Leave of Absence, Withdrawal, Expulsion, etc.)

Regarding student status changes

Changes in student status and deadlines for tuition fees (etc.) are closely related. Please check the details carefully. Also, you will need your student ID card when submitting the documents.

Leave of absence

Students who wish to take a leave of absence due to illness or other reasons must go through the required procedures and receive permission from the President. However, the total period of leave of absence may not exceed three years.

If the procedure is completed within the tuition payment deadline, tuition fees will not be collected during the period of leave of absence, but students enrolled in or after the 2019 academic year will be required to pay the enrollment fee (60,000 yen per semester). However, if a student takes leave of absence midway through a semester, the full tuition fee for that semester will be collected.

In the same department of a faculty, a student may not remain enrolled for more than twice the period of study, excluding periods of leave of absence. However, in the case of Faculty of Economics, this includes the period before being assigned to a department.

*The deadline for submitting a leave of absence request is the same as the deadline for paying tuition fees (etc.). However, if the last day of payment falls on a bank holiday, the payment deadline will be the following business day, and so will the deadline for submitting a leave of absence request. Depending on the department, graduation may be delayed by one year even if you take a semester off. Please check with Academic Affairs Division for details.

If you wish to continue your leave of absence into the next academic year, you must complete the procedures again. If you do not complete the procedures, your leave of absence will not be continued.
You will also need your student ID when submitting your documents.

Returning to school

If the reason for leave of absence disappears during the period of leave of absence, a student may return to school by following the prescribed procedures, receiving permission from the President after a discussion at the Faculty Council.

If a student returns to school midway through a semester, the full tuition fee and educational environment improvement fee for that semester will be charged.

Once your leave of absence is over, you will automatically be reinstated the next semester without any further procedures, so please complete the procedures such as applying to enroll and paying tuition fees for the semester you will be returning to before returning (while on leave). If you return to school during your leave of absence, you will need to submit a "Request for Reinstatement" to Academic Affairs Division and pay the full tuition fee (etc.) for that semester, but the registration fee for that semester will be refunded. If you are returning to school after a leave of absence due to illness or injury, you will need a doctor's certificate stating that you are fit to study. Please consult Academic Affairs Division regarding the procedures.

Withdrawal

Students who wish to withdraw from the university due to illness or other unavoidable reasons must follow the prescribed procedures and obtain permission from the university president.

If tuition fees (etc.) for the semester are unpaid and the submission deadline has passed, you will be expelled. For more information, please contact Academic Affairs Division.

Expulsion

A student will be expelled if he/she falls under any of the following items.

  1. When tuition fees are not paid by the deadline
  2. When a student has been absent for a long period of time, or is deemed unable to complete the course due to illness or other reasons.
  3. When the period of enrollment exceeds the period stipulated in Article 6, Paragraph 2.
  4. When someone dies

Those eligible to re-enroll in the University must fall under any of the following categories and have passed the required examination.

  1. Those who have left the university for personal reasons and have not left for more than three years at the time of application
  2. Those who have been expelled due to non-payment of tuition fees and whose expulsion cancellation period has not expired more than three years at the time of application.

*For those with special circumstances, applications for re-enrollment may be accepted even after three years. Please consult with Academic Affairs Division regarding re-enrollment exams and other matters.
