Health Service Center First Aid

First aid, how to use an AED, how to call an ambulance

what we can do

There is no telling when, where, or what the cause of a serious accident such as a heart stopping accident will be.
After the heart and breathing have stopped, the chances of survival drop rapidly over time, but it is known that administering first aid such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation and an AED can roughly double the chances of survival.
In Japan, it takes an average of nine minutes for an ambulance to arrive at the scene after a 110 emergency call is made.
It is important that bystanders administer first aid first.

How to use an AED

AED is an abbreviation for Automated External Defibrillator. It is a medical device that automatically measures and analyzes electrocardiograms and delivers an electric shock (defibrillation) to victims in a state of cardiac arrest (ventricular fibrillation) when the heart goes into spasms and loses its pumping function to send blood, thereby restoring the heart to a normal rhythm.
Our university has installed Asahi Kasei Zoll Medical AEDs in 28 locations on campus.
