Application for “permission to engage in activities other than that permitted under the status of residence previously granted (part-time work permission)”
If you wish to work part-time, please apply for "permission to engage in activities other than that permitted under the status of residence previously granted" in advance. Once you have received permission, it will remain valid even if you change your part-time job.
To receive permission to engage in activities other than that permitted under the status of residence previously granted, you must go to the Immigration Bureau yourself.

*It may take nearly a month from the time you apply until you receive permission to engage in activities other than that permitted under the status of residence previously granted. During busy periods at the Immigration Bureau (especially around March to May), it may take longer.
*You cannot apply if you have earned less than 20 credits in the past year.
Apply early when renewing your period of stay.
Permission to engage in activity other than that permitted under the status of residence previously granted must be re-obtained when the period of stay is renewed. If you want to continue working part-time, please complete the renewal process as soon as possible.
Additionally, an application for permission to engage in activities other than that permitted under the status of residence can be submitted at the same time as an application for permission to extend the period of stay.
Part-time job conditions
About time (within 28 hours per week)
International students are allowed to work part-time for up to 28 hours a week. However, up to 8 hours a day is allowed only during vacation periods (periods below) stipulated by the school regulations, such as summer vacation.
(Summer vacation) July 27th to September 14th
(Winter holiday) December 22nd - January 7th
(Spring break) February 22nd to March 25th
About the industry you work in
Part-time jobs at bars, cabarets, nightclubs, pachinko parlors, mahjong parlors, game centers, special bathhouses, strips, love hotels, private massage rooms, snack bars with hostesses who entertain customers, pubs, etc., business trips and temporary fashion. Part-time jobs in the health and adult video mail order industries, two-shot dialing, message dialing, etc. are prohibited by law as they are not suitable for international students. Working in these types of stores is prohibited, even if you are washing dishes or cleaning. Also, activities such as dropping pink flyers into household mailboxes are not permitted.
You cannot work part-time at all during your leave of absence!
Permission to engage in activities other than that permitted under the status of residence previously granted will only be granted if it does not interfere with the student's original activities, and part-time work during leave of absence when the student is not engaged in their primary activity of study is not permitted.
